we're lotus children's home

Founded in 1995 by Didi Ananda Kalika, the Lotus Children’s Centre has been running for over 30 years. Didi (which means Sister), came to Mongolia in the early 90’s as an Ananda Marga yoga and meditation teacher. Didi began teaching but was moved by the plight of the children on the streets of Ulaanbaatar. Starting from a single apartment, Lotus has grown to having housed, fed, cared for and educated hundreds of Mongolian children. At one stage Lotus was caring for around 150 children including many abandoned babies. At the moment
the ages of the children in our care range from 2-18 years. In Mongolia normal family links are used to find work and accommodation, to fund university and for every kind of support. Orphans in Mongolia receive very little support from the government after turning 18. More than just providing basic care, Lotus has for a long time also been providing education and life skills training, as well as running a bakery and hostel where the young people can work and gain practical experience. Lotus ensures that the children who have lived in care since they were babies have a good chance at life, staying with them into young adulthood and for as long as required, much like a normal family. If you would like to support Didi to continue this valuable work, please visit the Lotus Children's Centre. |
